Latest Operating System Available For Each Blackberry Device (UPDATED 11/7/2007)

Below you will find the latest operating system for the Handheld Models listed

The carrier the latest OS is available from is in parentheses, it may be available from more than just the carrier(s) listed in the parentheses. Once you locate your device and its respective application version, go to the lower part of this post and locate the appropriate carrier and follow that link for your download.

Should you become aware of any errors or omissions in the information provided below or become aware of any updates, please feel free to post them here and I will update the thread accordingly.

To check your Application Version:
1. From the Home screen, scroll to the "Options" icon and press the trackwheel. You will see the Device Options screen.

2. Select "About" by pressing the trackwheel. The BlackBerry model number will appear at the top of the "About" screen, directly under that, you will see your application and platform versions.

OS Installation Instructions:

To install an OS update to the BB:
1. Download and install the latest version of Desktop Manager
2. Donwload the OS package and install it to the PC.
3. Delete the vendor.xml file located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader (this step is necessary any time an OS is installed from a different carrier than what is branded on the BB.)
4. Plug in BB and open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

Edit: 12/12/07

NOTICE:

I have cleaned up almost 100 useless posts from this thread. This thread is ONLY for reference on what is the latest OS released (by any carrier) for a given device.

Please do not use this thread for questions like, "How do I install this update?" or "Where do I get the link?" or "Why did my upgrade go bad?" etc. etc.....

Please only post in this thread if there is a newer OS version that you'd like Jungleland to update his post with.

Again, this thread is a reference thread only. No questions. If you have a question please see the stickies in the appropriate forum for your device. There is usually ALWAYS a sticky for the latest OS for each device. That's a good place to post your question about how to update or if you have problems.

Any questions/posts that are not relevant to simply keeping the first post up to date will be DELETED.

Thank you

Nice....I've stickied this thread as it's definately worthy of it. That means however that you must now keep it up to date!

Great work Jungleland, looks like a lot of hard work went into this!

It is much appreciated.

Of course! I am happy to help. It will be somewhat of a group effort, people just need to post here if they ever see anything that needs changing and I will get to it quickly, in the event that I have not gotten to it already.

My pleasure

One reason I prefer Package version over Application version is because that's how RIM lists it in the Vendor.xml file - it's easier to know when an obscure new version has been released or is set for release. It's listed as the 'release version' for a reason.

With that said, the latest one available for 7100 family is 4.1.0.351 (multiple carriers); 4.1.0.380 for the 7520 (just issued from Nextel).

Thanks Jibi. I have updated the thread. As for the package version. I will add
the full package info shortly. something like this...

8700g/ Pkg:4.1.0.529, App:4.1.0.377, Plt:2.0.0.152 (Cingular + a few others)

that works ok, no?

jibi 12-19-2006 11:24 AM

Sounds good :)

Can Sprint 8703e OS be used on a Verizon 8703e?

Please can we keep this thread clear of questions about what will work with what, otherwise it will get messy quickly. I don't mind that so much in a normal thread but not in a sticky, so please keep the thread as clean as possible.

Thanks!

I agree. For the sake of keeping this thread clean without having to lock it up (since Jungleland would not be able to update it at that point), keep the questions off this thread and into their own threads. This thread should be used to comment with either 'thanks' to Jungleland for making the effort to create this thread or to help him out with the posting of new updates as they become available. Thanks.

It has a higher application version but a lower platform version than the US cellular version...

I don't know if this is an upgrade or a downgrade..I am confused

jungleland 02-01-2007 09:34 AM

Updated new 7130G, V, C OS versions.... Please note the new app version in package 4.1.0.472 from verizon, available for the 7250, however that package contains a lower platform version than the us cellular version..so pick your poison

If something were not broken, then there would be no reason for an update(y) (y)

NJBlackBerry 02-03-2007 11:06 AM

Here are the correct steps to take.

- Download the Handheld OS for the BlackBerry (7290) - here is one of the many download sites - https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...B42B2DBB8F27B6

- Execute the program you just downloaded

- Locate and delete VENDOR.XML from your PCs C: drive

- Restart Desktop Manager

The OS should load now.

John Clark 02-03-2007 01:42 PM

That should work. After you install both files to your PC then delete the "vendor.xml" from c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader.

Run Desktop manager with the BB plugged in and you should update automatically.
