BES Express, are you going to jump ship from BES?
 

Just curious about the BES express.
IF you have no real need for complex IT policies are you going to dump BES, SBE, BPS in fave of free licenses?

Depends on OTA EA and T-Support options.

I may seriously look into it. The ability to drop the BES data plan is attractive.

Seeing as it's only for Exchange, I don't have a choice. Neither do Domino BES Admins.

From what I've heard you can't do wireless activation so I don't see us moving to it anytime soon if ever due to that problem, I have too many people that are in other states and my current BES doesn't have any USB ports, it's a old server.

How can it pretend to support 2,000 users and not allow OTA activation?????

More and more, BES do not have USB as a lot of us are moving to VMs. ESX does not easily support USB.

OTOH, no OTA activation would be a good protection against those users who like to upgrade their OS without asking.

I'd enjoy being the one telling a manager that his employee has been without a BB for a coulpe of days because he did an un-approved OS upgrade and had to send the device back here for activation.

So USB on the server may be a mute point.

Still does not help with OTA Activations :-(

Probably not, since we want to roll out Mobile Voice Systems and from what I've read BES is required for that.

Anyone see a side-by-side comparison chart yet of BES vs. BES Express? That would be something helpful to see....

i dont understand why i should not change over, i have an SBS08 server and i was specifically looking for a solution for it (had an sbs 2003 server previously running BPS on it) but after rolling out the new sbs2008 server found there was no options for me other than running vm and a second server 2003 to then run bes on, that is just crazy. i thought rim was giving up on the smb market when i found that so i went back to winmo phones. But after 6 months of winmo i realized i wanted back BB and could recycle my old cals from the old sbs2003 server so i set up the VM and server 2003 and BES (that was a month ago) now after a month i am having issues with BES or VM or Memory or DNS or something depending on who you ask (see my thread here "BES Broke" if you can provide some help on that)

But from what it sounds to me like this is a product i can run on my server without a second server and vm headaches and for free with up to 75 users. Plus as an added bonus i dont need BES anymore, just plain BIS will work? Unless BES will add certain features or something it seems like express users will only get BIS and save the $$$$.

So is there a reason i should stay with my BPS install over this express version? am i missing something?

Personally I think the BES XPress is targeted to the SMB world.

Because right now the big question is the OTA activation. If all your BB users are in your office all the time, not a big issue. If theyu are scattered all over the country, and need to run EA, you'd need to have them ship the BB to you to activate, or give them access to the web based DM. Neither is a solution for many of us.

BES Express will support OTA activation with a BES data plan on the device.

yep - but Web DM is available so it isn't a big deal.
