Map (gps)

Sorry, it might be a dumb question, im really not familiar with BB (I owned a iphone)

Is the app MAP the GPS? I tried searching for directions, nothing came out. I pressed my location, nothing either. With the iphone, I did not have to do anything. With MAP, do I have to download something? Is it already set up?

Thx

Check with Rogers if they charge for use of their Map app (att charges for theirs). Or just download a free Google Maps app.

Re: Map (gps)

Also, the mapping app is not the gps, per se. If your device has gps, the mapping app gets your location from the gps and allows you to find your location or track movement on the map.

But I agree with the above. You need to figure out which mapping app you are looking at. You might be seeing a download link for one of the paid apps. The free native blackberry maps app may also be available on the device. A lot of people like google maps (search).

GPS is GPS. There is no app for that as it is built into the device. Now you need a map application to display the GPS location and other data in a usable form. BBMaps is one. Google Maps is another.

There is now. BlackBerry Traffic. It's in the App Store.

Re: Map (gps)

You need to distinguish between the gps chip that gets and processes location data from the gps system satellites, and the app(s) that use that data along with location information from network servers.

Blackberry Traffic is an app that uses the gps as well as crowd sourced info from the servers.
