1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the AppLoader says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

I vote for sticky. Just one more thing, does this os still have the 3g and 2g switch in the options and will vvm work with att.

fonejunkie 09-14-2009 08:11 PM

It will be stickied as soon as a mod sees it...

Raptor464: Good find... thanks!

Yes, all OS releases after .282 will include the 2G-only option.

gkolleng 09-14-2009 09:33 PM

Is this an "official AT&T" release?

Based on x14 above, this is not an official release...?

Anytime I change the OS on my Blackberry, do I have to get the admin to send me a new activation code to register my device on the BES? ie is there any way around having to ask the admin to send a new registration code each time I change the OS?

Thanks.

Yes it IS an official release, just by another carrier and not AT&T. This will however work fine on AT&T devices, you just need to remove the vendor.xml file before updating your device.

Every time you install a new OS, your phone must be reactivated on BES. No way around it.

Apploader says this version will downgrade VVM. If you change the attribute to "false" so it will give you the option to uncheck VVM, it will remove the application. Has anyone tried the VVM in this version?

Has anybody put this os on their Bold and what's the report, good or bad?

JSanders 09-15-2009 08:22 AM

I know a couple people using it, they have not reported anything adverse. Working fine.

Shaolin 09-15-2009 09:16 AM

No issues so far.. upgrade went without a hitch. Had to do a quickpull because it was messing up my theme, but that was it.

jstevenson 09-15-2009 09:47 AM

So far so good

Getting about 10-MB more memory free than I'd been having with .282. Too early to tell on battery life. And for the first time in many years of doing upgrades, I had to update my conditional call-forwarding numbers for voicemail to work properly. My phone's debranded, so I also had to update the vendor ID in the net_rim_bb_vvm.alx file from 102 to 179 in order to keep visual voicemail on the device. Other than that, so far so good. I also figured out a problem I'd been having with .297 - turns out the problem must exist from .297 onward, but regardless, I figured out what it was.

I'm install this version now, will post what I can.

I have only had to ask the IT guys once to send a new actication code and that was when I used uploader.exe. When ever I have used the Desktop Manager on my network office computer to load up a new OS, I have been reactivated automatically over the air after installing the new OS.
Note, however, our office BES has very few restrictions placed on it so it may be more liberal than your BES. However, it would be worth a try to use DM instead of uploader.exe. Just do it when your IT people are available, otherwise you will loose your contacts etc until reactivated.

Can you share what the problem was, and what you figured out about it?

mbruce01 09-16-2009 05:12 AM

Media and calendar wouldn't work. Blackberry messenger wasn't there even after activating the blackberry.

Blackberry App world wouldn't download saying I didn't have a compatible version.

Downgraded.
