Useful - Latest OS for ALL Models

The following is a list of the latest version OS available from the 202 BlackBerry hosted Device Software Download Sites and 2 non RIM sites as of 2/18/2009 7:31:09 AM:
Notes:
  • The information above is gathered by a script that visits each provider site listed in the link at the top of the page that use BlackBerry to host their files, selects each model available, and gets the first version listed. If you are aware of discrepancies, PM me.
  • Only sites which have the latest available version are listed. Models may be listed at other sites, but do not have the latest version available.
  • Version numbers listed should match the version number in the About screen under Options - typically the third line down, and listed as vX.X.X.X (Platform x.x.x.x)
  • Both t-Mobile and Verizon host their own software download sites. The US t-Mobile and Verizon site info is gathered irregularly manually, and may be out of date. PM me if you are aware of newer versions available from those two providers.
  • Non US t-Mobile sites and other sites like O2 that do not use BlackBerry to host their firmware, as well as sites not listed on the Download Sites page (like TIM and Bouygues Telecom) are not included in the scan at all, and will not be included unless they hosts their files on BlackBerry's site AND are listed on the Download Sites page.

Nice, thanks.

Yes, nice. Good to have a centralized place. This should be a sticky.

jsntrenkler 12-22-2007 11:17 AM

Yes, this should be a sticky ... Thanks for the info!

Just waiting for 4.3 :)

That's the package version, Dawg.
When referring to OS versions, you typically refer to the applications version... which would be 4.2.1.110.
The list above is correct.

penguin3107 12-22-2007 11:46 AM

Jerry, I think you're missing the 8120 from the list.

John Clark 12-22-2007 12:39 PM

Well put together list. We have a list similar to this but it doesn't get kept up all the time by the OP and it doesn't have links like this. If you're willing to keep it updated I'll sticky it.

I know this stuff changes weekly as I tried to keep up with all the edited .alx files for a while. I couldn't keep up.

kobersteen 12-22-2007 01:54 PM

Here is a noob-ish question I have been wondering for a bit...

Is there an issue putting another company's 'update' into my BB? For example, I have a Verizon 8703e and the above post says that Telus has a newer OS than I have installed on my BB.

Thanks... good stuff.

JSanders 12-22-2007 02:01 PM

not at all... as long as you stay model-consistent, i.e. 8703 to 8703, 8100 to 8100. And always follow the instruction in the Sticky Threads about deleting the vendor.xml file.

kobersteen 12-22-2007 02:21 PM

Thanks. Is it worth grabbing onto every update? I'm running 4.2.1.106 and I'm curious whether I should wait for a more significant change than upgrading to a version 0.0.0.004 higher than what I have!

Iare Tosevite 12-22-2007 03:06 PM

Wow that is useful... :-)

CBR900RR 12-22-2007 07:45 PM

You can also do your own scan over here.

BoostedSupra 12-22-2007 08:21 PM

i can't seem to find the version i was told i need.

i read in another thread that was a v4.2.1.179, but i don't see that..

John Clark 12-23-2007 12:00 AM

4.2.1.179 sounds like a package version. These are listed by app version (which is how most here refer to them.) Do you know which app version you are looking for?

Who carries it? If it's only carried by t-Mobile (it isn't listed on the US t-Mobile site), it won't appear on the list.

Although the process takes about 30 minutes, it's completely automated - even the content of the post (in BB code) is automated, so I just have to kick it off.

I won't promise to do it weekly, but I will try to update it at least once a month.

I'd scan the forums for the exact details for this procedure, but I'm pretty sure all you need to do is to make sure you do NOT have any other firmware for the model installed other than the version you want, and then rename or delete the file C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\Vendor.xml.

The Application loader should now recognize that it has newer firmware available for your device automatically, and if it doesn't come up automatically when you connect, it should offer the update if you start it manually.

No such version for ANY model! There's 4.2.1.79 for the 8800 from AT&T, but the AT&T 8100 is currently on 4.2.1.96. Get it from here:

It was released in Europe before the US.
O2 UK, Orange UK, Telefonica (Spain), TIM (Italy), Bouygues Telecom (France) all have the device.

I believe the first US carrier to launch the 8120 is Suncom (T-Mobile), although it may not have officially released in the US yet. Q108?

Good catch!

Explanation:
The script gleans model info from this page:
BlackBerry Desktop and Device Software Download Sites
However, the 8820, 8120, and 8130 are not listed there. When I wrote the script I was able to set it add the 8820 and 8130 to the list of models to check for, but the 8120 had no providers and having it in the list was causing errors.

Now that there are providers for that model, I've added them to the list of models to check for.

O2 does not use BlackBerry to host their files, and TIM and Bouygues are not listed in the Providers page. The notes will be updated to be more clear on that issue.

Nextel User 12-24-2007 01:44 PM

excellent code. well done

skamania 01-26-2008 02:53 PM

this might have been asked before but i have a basic question. i have a verizon pearl, will the alltel OS update work properly? is this a problem for verizon or alltel or me? thanks

NJBlackBerry 01-26-2008 02:56 PM

Yes, the Alltel code will work on Verizon. All handheld code is written by RIM, and tested and released by the carriers on their own schedules.

Follow the instructions posted on Main Page - BlackBerryFAQ.com and you are good to go.

skamania 01-26-2008 03:01 PM

when im asked to verify that i am an alltel customer, does that not go anywhere? or is that jsut for RIM?

NJBlackBerry 01-26-2008 03:02 PM

Just a question.
You are the first person in recorded history to actually READ the EULA :-)

skamania 01-26-2008 03:07 PM

sorry just a lil type A and anal. so your saying go for it.

NJBlackBerry 01-26-2008 03:17 PM

If you want to, go for it.
Just because others are doing it doesn't mean it is right for you.

ChainsawDude 05-08-2008 08:00 AM

FYI the 8110 is missing from the list.

actually that was a statement, not a question.

John Clark 05-11-2008 07:56 PM

I did wonder about that the first time I downloaded an OS from another carrier. However, it's been 3 years and nobody's come knocking on my door.

Sith_Apprentice 05-11-2008 07:57 PM

strictly speaking yes, you are *supposed* to be a customer of that carrier, in order to download that OS.

nkotb 06-23-2008 08:43 PM

Hi guys

i would like to know if i download a firmware from other carrier for 8707 model, will that affect the whole device? or i should delete the vendor.xml file before proceed to upgrade firwmare ?

using CSL carrier, but problem is it dont have the firmware for 8707 model.

can 8707g or 8707v firmware compatible with 8707 model ?

also, i would like to know if i download a firmware with CJK language, is that mean after upgrade the firmware, the whole device only shows in chinese or just showing chinese during upgrading process via desktop manager?

please advise. thank you

Quick Question,
I have 8300 from AT&T, is it completely safe to download and install
# 8300 - 4.5.0.37 from Singapore and StarHub? I mean, will I lose any functionality, since these are specifically designed for that particular provider.

John Clark 07-08-2008 11:40 AM

Yes, it's safe to do.

Hi! Anyone know if there an OS upgrade from Verizon for the 8830?

John Clark 07-16-2008 10:29 AM

Check the Verizon website for upgrades for Verizon.

John Clark 07-16-2008 10:31 AM

JerryD, The 8110, 8820 and 8310 have had releases of 4.5.0.44 recently.

John Clark 07-16-2008 10:31 AM

Great list, BTW!!

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

Check the 8800 forum stickys.

SMF 07-17-2008 07:47 PM

JC - I did. Here's what it says.....

4.5.0.37 os for 8820 on TurkCell. Multilanguage, including English.

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.52 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.5.0.52
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.5.0.37
* Software Platform: 2.7.0.55
* File name: 8820M_PBr4.5.0_rel52_PL2.7.0.55_A4.5.0.37_Turkcell .exe
* File size: 80.12MB

I don't want to use .52/.37 and I didn't see 4.5.0.44 for the 8820 anywhere (at least officially.... ;) )

Garz08 07-17-2008 11:14 PM

I think we need this updated. I'm seeing a lot of new OS's not listed here.

BeDoell 07-19-2008 10:09 AM

Thanks, its very usefull, I will keep looking for it

BoostedSupra 07-19-2008 02:07 PM

i just did the 4.5.0.52 , and am getting the excessive hourglass. :( do i need to do an older o.s. ?

nightwend 07-19-2008 07:55 PM

thanks for the useful info

BoostedSupra 07-21-2008 09:31 AM

i had 4.5 running smoothly somehow, after about 15 reboots, but i put the newest 4.2 back on ,in fear of it crashing again.

however, 4.5 blew 4.2 out of the water. the predictive text was WAY better, the media player was extra sweet, the sound at full blast was much clearer. everything was better.. hopefully a more stable one comes out ,soon

bizzarro63 07-23-2008 08:48 AM

4.5.0.52 works fine on my 8800

Hi,

Just made some extensive tests on how to deploy 4.5 OS within the company and did upgrades on all sorts of devices (8100, 8310, 8800, 8700) where the 4.5.0.52 flushed smoothly on the 8800 device (with DM4.5).

thanks 8-)

littlesky 07-23-2008 07:25 PM

Why upgrade?

Why would I want upgrade to 4.3 (I have 8330 Curve 4.2) and instead wait for a little bit for the 4.5? I have Alltel phone carrier. Thanks!

John Clark 07-23-2008 07:54 PM

Nobody asked you to upgrade.

And, FWIW, you don't have 4.2 on your 8330 Curve.

sheldonbk 07-23-2008 08:26 PM

extremely helpful sticky!
BTW, if you click on your own link for TMI under the 8300, you'll find that there's also 4.5.0.52 for 8310.

knottyrope 07-25-2008 12:51 PM

just went to 4.5.0.52 on a 8310 on a second device.
Looking good so far.

TwoThumbs 08-04-2008 06:38 PM

I see both Telstra and Optus have v4.5.0.75 for the Pearl 81xx, Curve 83xx, 8700g and 8800, which is (I think) more recent than other carrier releases

John Clark 08-10-2008 07:17 PM

Good news for 8130/8330 users. Looks like 4.5 was released for the 8130 and 8330. Check the appropriate forums for the Latest OS threads for those!

fitzgeralds2peru 08-29-2008 04:03 PM

We've just got a 8830 from Verizon, which, as you know, allows for different networks, and for a sim chip.
The phone currently has a vodafone chip in it.
The problem is that we live in Peru, South America, and need it to work exclusively with the gsm network (and local sim chips) here.
What do we need to download in order to make it work?

John Clark 08-29-2008 10:59 PM

There is nothing you need to download. The device needs to be unlocked, if it isn't already. Also, the only frequencies that the 8830 uses for GSM are 900 and 1800Mhz. Your network needs to be one of those frequencies.

milelake2 09-04-2008 12:42 AM
